The sun is technically a
star,
but its role, both culturally and functionally, differs greatly from that of other stars.
Our entire existences are defined by our relation to it, as our rotation around it creates
seasons
and our facing towards and away from it generates the grand illusions of day and night. It is a bottomless well of
energy,
the father of all life on earth.
God
is often described as an eternal light and the sun is often worshipped as God. And much like how we cannot experience God in His fullness, as the Old Testament describes, we cannot look at the sun directly.
I really like to draw the sun, and I love to see others depictions.
These are the best images of the sun we have.
